Spark of Love

With club activities, vacation, work, and holiday feasting I have neglected to post here. Hopefully I will make a few posts before we get into the thick of things which I am told starts some time after January. Right now I am working on a toy drive my club is having for our December meeting. We are collecting toys for our local fire department which they will use in their “Spark of Love” program. Once the meeting is over I will post the results.

We enjoyed it

At the SW conference Doormouse and I had the opportunity to perform for members and vendors alike. This week one of the vendors, Dave Whittle, returned the favor when he presented at our User Group. Our group so enjoyed his presentation that when his allotted time was up they insisted he continue until his presentation was completed.

Yesterday was

Yesterday was a very busy day the biggest part of the day was to be spent with doorman at the SCRUGS meeting but as it turned out Doorman was ill and could not attend. I contacted Betty Colston, president of the Long Beach User Group and we decided we would carpool to the meeting. Upon our 9:45 AM arrival Harry presented me with an excerpt from “The Americans with Disabilities Act”. This is to help keep all of our groups in compliance. After introductions we discussed last years SWUG conference. Everyone like the new venue and only had positive responses. With some of the planning starting for next year it was discovered we are going to have larger work shop participation so registration will be moved down stairs right off the main lobby. Al Hill is upgrading and adding new equipment to further enhance next years SWUG conference. After the main meeting needed I gave Judy Taylour the first rough draft of the CD ROM for next year. I hope to add animation and sounds, but we will have to wait and see.

Swapmeet

Today Doorman and I attended the ACP swap meet which was one of the better computer shows around. Both parking and admission was free plus they had a large vendor turnout. We were hoping to find items, or make contacts that would be useful for the 2006 conference. Even though parking and admission were still free we were greatly disappointed by the lack of vendor turn out. The show was about one third the size it used to be and many of the vendors were dealing either in old used equipment or novelty items that had nothing to do with computers. We will have to look elsewhere to find items of interest for our attendees.

When do you start?

Often the volunteers are asked “When do you start working on next year’s conference”? Speaking for me the answer is within the first few weeks after the last conference has ended. This does not mean full time, that will come later, only that I have started researching ideas, changes, and the suggestions from  the attendees forms to try and improve the next conference. So far Al, Judy, Patricia and I have only had a few emails but by the first of the year the volume of email traffic between us will grow to volumes. Right now I am testing the remote option of posting to his site, if it works we hope to have an open working BLOG for the 13th annual conference.

First Time

This is my first entry. It will be interesting to see how it works. I hope we can get others to use it.

Who is he?

Who is this Doorman fellow and what is his secret? Do you think he likes Knock, Knock jokes? How often does he get himself into a "jamb"? Is he a secure, sturdy and safety consious person or is he weak, mared and stained?

Welcome

You have entered the Blog site for the Southwest User Group conference which is held in San Diego, California each year.
